I find that a lot of people take what he says with a grain of salt. Most of the people I know avoid using some of his harsher techniques (like the alpha roll and flooding) and use some of the better things he says. He's a very charismatic person, which is why people tend to listen to his more humane ideas (exercise, etc.) instead of taking them from elsewhere. It doesn't matter where you get those ideas from so long as you institute them!
Observing a dog on a treadmill is ok, though I think it's not a great substitute for a walk. If you're watching the dog, it can't get hurt because you're there to make sure of it. His suggestion of walking away and doing other things makes me nervous. I personally don't bother with a treadmill. I just bundle myself up and get my ass out into the frigid NY weather no matter how bad it is! lol
But there are some people who take his harsher techniques literally and can really end up damaging their dogs. One person I saw on a walk was consistently lifting his dog up off her front feet (by the collar) whenever she put her nose down to sniff. When she took an interest in Dahlia, he lifted her up for a good 5-10 seconds. He kept the collar up high on her like Cesar suggests and probably did some damage to her psyche and to her wind pipe as well. My partner saw someone shove their dog to the ground and "alpha roll" it at one point on a walk. So some people do use those techniques that he suggests and THAT is what worries me about him. I know one of my friends on here likes him, but she's also very humane to her dogs so its clear those people who like him are simply ignoring or glossing over some of the harsher techniques he employs.
People worship this man and he's really just a fraud. He was an illegal immigrant with a charismatic personality who latched onto some decent training ideas but also some things that are clearly not healthy, and managed to go far through his personality.
