Yesterday was a nice relaxing day. It was sunny, mid-60s, a perfect day for just hanging out. Dahlia didn't even want to walk in the morning. She wanted to do nothing other than lay on the porch and in the grass near the porch relaxing in the sun. Of course, that was interrupted by the eejit kid across the street. We met this kid back a couple months ago when they first got their Dachshund puppy, Turbo. The puppy had gotten loose (they thought it would be a good idea to just let the puppy run around, except then all it did was RUN AWAY) and they were trying to catch it. I tried to get them to back off so I could lure the pup to me with a treat and catch him. But no. Every time the puppy would get near me, the kid would run up screaming and try to grab him. I finally gave up and told them they were on their own (the father ultimately ended up cornering him underneath my car and grabbing him by the tail to pull him out *headdesk*).

So anyway, I'm inside doing some laundry and I hear all this commotion from outside. Dahlia has noticed a dog, a big beautiful Samoyed, who is being "walked" by his owner who is driving a golf cart. Along with this, the kid has decided to bring Turbo over to Dahlia and he is running the dog around her, which is annoying her. She keeps growling and barking at the dog because it's running around and around and jumping on her every chance it gets. The kid seems to think this is funny but at the same time keeps saying "Your dog isn't nice...why does she growl like that?" Argh. GO. AWAY.

So I think they're finally going to go away and Dahlia is relaxing, when the kid brings the dog back over and lets it head over to the French toast Dahlia had discarded. Dahlia, none too happy with this dog stealing HER food (even though she didn't want the food) rushes the dog and barks in his face. The kid just keeps letting the dog try to get the food and I decide it's time to bring Dahlia inside, even though she really just wants to be left in peace to enjoy lazing in the sun.

And THEN we're inside and Dahlia is looking forlornly outside and the kid starts running the dog back and forth across our porch! WTF. David finally shouts "JUST GO AWAY" to the kid and tells him to leave Dahlia alone. Kid finally gets a clue and goes home. UGH!

To top it off, the whole family leaves a short while later and Turbo is left tied up outside alone. I went to check on his water and either he had finished it all (it was a tiny bowl) or they never left him with any. I filled it up. The poor dog immediately drank half of it. That poor dog, being left to the care of those people.

Anyway, we got a lot of laundry done (oh excitement!) and then headed out to the railroad tracks to go walking. It was where we first took Dahlia the day after we got her (we got her late at night, so no walks with us until the next morning). Cameras, of course, came along.

Dahlia always wonders why we keep stopping. Damn us and those cameras!

But then we saw THIS!

Which, of course, resulted in this:

And this:
rr13

Oh boy, that was a tasty chipmunk!
rr19

Just kidding! You didn't think she actually got it, did you?
rr24

Mmmm smell that delicious air! I think I smell...MORE CHIPMUNKS!!!
rr26

Oh Alvin? Theodore? You guys down there?
rr34

Come out, come out, where ever you are!

Oh boy, this is fun!
rr33

Doing the faceplant again.
rr38

I think I see Simon down there!
rr36

All that digging is hard work!
rr41

rr42

Just how much dirt DO you think she swallowed?

We finally called her off of it to head back. But then she found another one!
rr45

rr46

Which resulted in her sporting this lovely look.

That kid sounds like a right idiot. How old is he?

I'm not sure exactly...I'd guess maybe 7 or 8? I'm not good with kid's ages at all. But his parents just let him run wild with the puppy everywhere. He runs back and forth across the street and through our yard and everything. Annoying little kid, but his folks aren't much better.

That'll be where he gets it from then! Can't expect the kids to behave unless the parents show 'em how to!

Yep. So true. His father seems slightly more with it than his mother, but is mother just lets him run around willy-nilly. She watched him over in the yard the whole time and just smiled at him like "aww how cute." Ugh!

Ugh, it sounds like my neighbors moved next to you and their irritating Maltese turned into a Doxie!

Luckily this is up at the cottage, so we don't see them TOO often. But still, they're annoying when we're there! It means Dahlia can't ever just hang out outside in peace.

Often, people who have no business owning a dog also have poor parenting skills. Go figure, huh?

That is SO seriously true. The parents just let the kid run around and do whatever he wants. You think they'd be worried that their kid was running circles around a dog they didn't know who probably weighed as much as he did, but it didn't even faze them ONE BIT.

I'm very nervous when Sean approaches other dogs. He's out of his hitting phase and he's usually good around Hope and Faith, but you never know how some random dog will behave or what might set them off. So many kids are bitten by dogs; I have to think that teaching them the proper way to behave around dogs could eliminate a lot of them.

Poor dahlia. She should have looked more scary than just growling! Children shouldn't be allowed to be outside without an adult, I swear. There's like ten kids in my neighborhood that used to taunt frankie everytime we walked past (I straightened them out soon enough). Ugh. And yesterday some kid threw up his arms and ROARED at him when we were at a shopping center having a really nice day. He was so scared :(

The chipmunk searching photos are adorable! I love when they stick their whole face in like that.

That's SO MEAN of those kids! Scary Frankie? Geez. I don't get kids. I never would have even thought to try to torment someone's pets. I was the one who wanted them to come to me so I could pet them and love them.

Sadly, Dahlia is just not a scary dog. She gave the pup warning growls and the PUP got it. The kid? Not so much. I half wish she had growled at him. lol

Yeah :( it sucked because up to that point, frankie was doing pretty well with the crowds (although he snarked at a few other dogs because the owners let them rush up). But unlike dahlia, his first response to being annoyed or scared is to bark as loud as possible like a lunatic, which in turn made the kid jump about four feet in the air! Serves him right.

I was always the polite "can I pet your dog?" kid too.

I probably would have punted that kid. I can't stand little brats who thing annoying animals is fun. :|

Steal Turbo and give him to [livejournal.com profile] i_eat_kittens!

God I was SO ready to punt the little bastard. He just wouldn't leave her alone! I kept trying to hint that maybe he should head off, that Dahlia was getting stressed, but he persisted. Bah!

A dirty dog is a happy dog! She came out of the dirt with that HUGE grin on her face. She didn't catch the chipmunk, but she sure had fun trying!
